Moose Ladies' Circle:
A Short History

The odd sounding name stems from America in 1888, when a Dr Wilson, studied moose & admired the way it protected the young & old of its kind. He founded a society that he called The Loyal Order of Moose, now called Moose International; the fraternity currently operates in America, Canada, Bermuda & the United Kingdom.
British Moose was established in 1926, the emphasis was to build upon membership & establish lodges. As a consequence, ladies of the Moose in Great Britain did not really get involved until 1929/30 when small support groups worked within lodges, to provide meals at lodge meetings & support their husbands & so gradually involving themselves in small fundraising activities.
The Grand Council at that time, like James J Davis, realised the potential of ladies working in harmony with the lodges. Accordingly, Ladies’ Circles were established in 1933 & as the years progressed a Constitution was introduced into circle rules.

Since the introduction of One Moose in 2022, Burnham Moose Ladies' Circle is a small but thriving group, which is separate to One Moose.
We meet on the second Thursday of the month at St. Andrews Church Hall in Burnham on Sea from 7pm till 9pm.
We Enjoy a variety of talks and demonstrations given by local groups and we hold various functions throughout the year including a Harvest supper, Ladies Night, Ploughman’s & sweet and afternoon teas all whilst raising monies for local charities while enjoying ourselves."
